Cognitive Restructuring

Module 1.1: Neutralizing the Judgment Loop & Canvas Paralysis

Dismantling catastrophizing, white-page paralysis, and inner critic interruption.

Cognitive target

Dismantling catastrophizing, white-page paralysis, and inner critic interruption.

Cognitive Target

Clients equate a blank substrate with an evaluation of their inherent worth. Paralysis occurs when the brain attempts to calculate the finished product before taking the first action. The goal is to sever the connection between self-worth and artistic outcome.

Somatic Action

Rapid, bilateral application of high-fluid acrylic washes using wide hardware brushes. Speed forces motor control out of the prefrontal cortex and into physical sensation. The body leads; the mind follows.

Studio assignment

The 90-Second Vandalism Wash

Take pure carbon black or burnt umber diluted with water. Within 90 seconds, completely cover the clean white canvas using non-dominant hand strokes. No planning allowed. The objective is intentional 'ruin' to permanently eliminate fear of the pristine surface.

Reflections

Notes stay on this device for now. The studio workbook table can receive them once member settings land.
